Easel for sale.

A lady has  contacted the Art Society with an easel for sale. The lady is Miss Ursula Badger and she can be contacted on 01723 365727. She says it is nearly brand new i.e. used only once before arthritis in her hands curtailed her painting ambitions. It is a professional type of easel and she is offering at the reduced price of £100.00 and says it would make an excellent Christmas present.

Nina Pickup will be leading the popular annual Critique session for Scarborough Art Society on the 4th October. This will be a warm and encouraging experience because Nina is known for her empathic positive approach when teaching. She has been a professional artist for over 18 years and has her own studio and gallery in Scarborough Old Town overlooking seagulls and the harbour. Formerly she had a studio and gallery in the Scarborough Market Vaults. Recently she has been teaching watercolour painting on CMV cruise ships MS Marco Polo MS Magellan and MS Azores, so she can be described correctly as a very popular international artist. Members and guests are invited to bring along one or two paintings - which need not be finished and can be executed in any medium. Guests pay £3 admission to Queen Street Methodist hall in time for a 7 pm start. Refreshments will be served. This is the last demonstration session of the year - but the Society's important AGM fills the 1st November space.

Scarborough Art Society members will be shown how to use oil paints on Wednesday 6th September in Queen Street Methodist Hall at 7 pm. Whitby-born artist Christine Pybus will offer a demonstration entitled "Winter Scene in Oils". Fortunately her audience will be sheltered and comfortably seated because her usual method is to complete all her pictures on location. This love of the outdoors has found her painting in Russia, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Christine has been a member of the Fylingdale Group of Artists for seventeen years. Enthusiasts will be able to play catch-up because she has been contracted to publish five articles for Leisure Painter magazine 2017-18. Visitors are very welcome to join members for £3 admission and refreshments will be served. Preview: www.pybusfinearts.co.uk

Scarborough Art Society was due to hold its annual exhibition and sale of work starting this Saturday 12th of August. However when we went to get our stands and storage shed from Eastfield Farm there had been a break in of the premises. The shed had been stolen and some of the stands vandalized. Some of the erection steel poles had gone and some of the stands set on fire destroying the roofs. We do not have time to source a new shed or poles and roofing for the stands. Unless something comes up where we can operate we have had to reluctantly cancel the 2017 exhibition. If there are any changes it will be posted on this site.
